Roofing system

Canal tile

A traditional ceramic roof, widely requested for new houses and rehabilitation. Europa Construções carries out this system regularly, from battens to the ridge.

What it is

Channel, cap and ridge, properly executed.

Canal tile combines a channel tile and a cap tile. The finish depends on alignment, laps and flashings — especially at the ridge and valleys.

Ceramic tile and ventilated roof.

We work with UM Canudo tiles from Umbelino Monteiro and with ventilated roof principles when the project requires them: an air layer between the substrate and the tiles, with inlets at the eaves and outlets at the ridge.

Tile
UM Canudo — channel and cap tile
Coverage
About 30 tiles per m²
Battens
Typical spacing 35 cm

Typical build-up

  1. 01Timber or steel structure
  2. 02Lining or support board, when applicable
  3. 03Underlay or vapour barrier, according to the design
  4. 04Counter-battens and battens — ventilated grid for a ventilated roof
  5. 05Channel and cap tiles (canal tile)
  6. 06Ridge, valleys and eave flashings

The final build-up is defined after assessing the structure, pitch and condition of the existing roof.

Europa Construções specialisation

Canal tile is one of the systems we execute most often. We build new roofs, replace degraded coverings and rehabilitate older roofs, with a team used to the alignment, laps and flashings this tile demands.
